Week 15

Hey All,

WE HAVE A CHAMPION!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The T3SNBN defeated the Thunder Mountain Lightning, 61-55 to claim the 2010 UMFL crown!!!!!

It wasn't a pretty matchup. A lot of the players on both sides had unproductive weeks and Adrian Peterson's failure to play on Monday night didn't help. However, they can start the victory parade in Huntington Beach.

I want to thank everyone for playing in this year's league. It was fun. Oh, and as always, you can email me with any suggestions to help the UMFL run better in 2011.

Have a great offseason,
-The Commissioner

Week 14

Hey All,

The Conference Championship Games are in the books. Here's the results:

T3SNBN 91- Canoga Lakes Capitalists 85
Thunder Mountain Lightning 83- Little Flowers of Jesus 76

The UMFL Championship Game is set. T3SNBN v. Thunder Mountain Lightning. It should be a good one. Congrats to Pam and Liza for getting this far.

Since, I was probably the only one in the league to actually watch Brett Favre not play against the Giants on Monday night. Here's a couple of weird stats about the game...

With this game being moved from Minnesota to Detroit, it means that Favre's streak of 297 games started ended in Detroit. Lou Gehrig's streak of 2,130 consecutive games played also ended in Detroit.

Brett Favre wears number 4. Lou Gehrig wore number 4.

This was the first game played on Monday night at Detroit's Ford Field. Too bad the Lions didn't play.

Okay, starting lineups for the UMFL Championship Game are due by 5:00 PM Thursday, PST.

Have a great week, folks.
-The Commissioner

Monday, December 6, 2010

Week 13

Hey All,

The first round of the playoffs are over. Here's the results

T3SNBN 96- HB Footballers 82
Canoga Lakes Capitalists 83- Tax Dodgers 74
Little Flowers of Jesus 111- Rancho Eagles 45
Thunder Mountain Lightning 102- Mighty Birnkrant Moose 93

So, we see here that three of the four division champs won. We'll that sets up the conference title games and they look like this...

National Conference Championship Game
T3SNBN V. Canoga Lakes Capitalists

American Conference Championship Game
Thunder Mountain Lightning V. Little Flowers of Jesus

Now, the final four owners need to get their starting lineups into me by Thursday night at 5:00PM PST.

Now, for a sad note. This past Sunday, Don Meredith died. He was a two-time All-American QB at SMU who became the face of the Dallas Cowboys in the 1960s. Then, he was the funniest and most loved member of a Monday Night Football announce team that by which all others are measured. As a kid who grew up with Monday Night Football, I will always hold a special place in my heart for Dandy Don. I'm truly sad, that it was Don's time to turn out the lights.

Have a great week, folks.
-The Commissioner

Week 12

Hey all,

The last week of the regular season came and went for the UMFL. It was a week that ended up with your commissioner using tie-breakers to settle a tie for the last wild card spot in the National Conference and using a tie breaker to settle the four-way tie for the two wild card spots in the American Conference, but first here's last week's scores...

T3SNBN 85- Avalon Aces 79
Huachuca Chukars 98- Tax Dodgers 76
Quite Smashing Pumpkins 82- HB Footbalers 65
Camnoga Lakes Capitialists 90- The J Team 65
Radisson Rebels 72- Little Flowers of Jesus 48
Thunder Mountain Lightning 65- Grape Stompers 53
Rancho Eagle 71- Creek Trail Burros 68
Mighty Birnkrant Moose 90- The Huntresses 59
Rex's Team 70- Tubby Corgis 56

Now the easy part, the division champions:
American Conference
Western Division Champs- T3SNBN (7-4-1)
Northern Division Champs- Canoga Lakes Capitalists (8-4)
National Conference
Southern Division Champs- Little Flowers of Jesus (9-3)
Eastern Division Champs- Mighty Birnkrant Moose (8-4)

American Conference WIld Card Tie-Breaker

This was a tough one to figure out as there were four teams with 7-5 records vying for the two wild card spots. So, I went to the first tie-breaker which is head-to-head record. All four teams did not play each other, so that tie-breaker became unusable. So, that leaves me with divisonal record next as a tie-breaker. Now with the four teams playing a different number of conference games, I used conference winning percentage as the tie-breaker. Here's the results...

HB Footballers: 7-5 overall, 4-2 in divisional play for a .666 winning percentage
Tax Dodgers: 7-5 overall, 5-3 in divisional play for a .625 winning percentage.
Quite SP: 7-5 overall, 3-3 in divisional play for a .500 winning percentage
Avalon Aces : 7-5 overall, 3-5 in divisional play for a .375 winning percentage.

Wild Cards: American Conference
HB Footballers (7-5)
Tax Dodgers (7-5)

National Conference Wild Card Tie Breaker:

The Rancho Eagles got the nod for the second wild card spot over the Creek Trail Buuros because they swept the Creek Trail Burros in head-to-head competition.

Wild Cards: National Conference
Thunder Mountain Lightning (8-4)
Rancho Eagles (6-6)

There's a game on Thursday folks, so all the playoff teams need to get me their starting lineups by Thursday afternoon at 5:00 PM

Hope everyone has a great week!

-The Commissioner

Tuesday, November 23, 2010

Week 11

Hey All,

We've got one week left of the regular season and three of the four divisional races are coming down to the wire. However, first we give congrats to the Little Flowers of Jesus for clinching the Southern Division title. Here's this week's scores...

T3SNBN 98- Rex's Team 98
Huachuca Chukars 108- Avalon Aces 96
The Huntresses 107- Tax Dodgers 100
Canoga Lakes Capitalists 117- Quite Smashing Pumpkins 103
HB Footballers 95- The J Team 85
Little Flowers of Jesus 115- Grape Stompers 82
Thunder Mountain Lightning 97- Radisson Rebels 94
Creek Trail Burros 102- Tubby Corgis 92
Mighty Birnkrant Moose 91- Rancho Eagles 74

So, when you look at the standings, there could be some ties that need to be sorted out.
Here's the tie-breakers:

1. Head to Head record
2. Divisonal Record
3. Total Points scored

Until next weeks, have a great thanksgiving,
-The Commissioner

Week 7

Hey All,

Another week has gone by in the NFL and it was a wild one ranging from Carson Palmer's 412 yards passing to DeAngelo Hall's four interceptions. Here are the scores...

Avalon Aces 103- Canoga Lakes Capitalists 94
Grape Stompers 109- The Huntresses 61
Little Flowers of Jesus 76- Tubby Corgis 69
HB Footballers 90- Huachuka Chukars 87
Creek Trail Burros 99- Thunder Mountain Lightning 93
Mighty Birnkrant Moose 89- Radisson Rebels 77
T3SNBN 88- Rancho Eagles 52
Quite Smashing Pumpkins 85- Rex's Team 65
Tax Dodgers 102- The J Team 91

Three Things I know This Week:
1. Atlanta is a great team at home.
2. Pittsburgh is a great team on the road.
3. The Bills aren't good a team anywhere.

This Week's Byes: Atlanta, Chicago, Cleveland, New York Giants, Philadelphia, and Baltimore are all off. So watch yourselves when sending me your lineups.

Have a great week!
-The Commissioner

Tuesday, October 19, 2010

WEEK 6

Hey All, How about those finishes in the NFL this week? Who thought Miami could win at Green Bay or that the Rams would beat the Chargers? Here's this week's scores...

Canoga Lakes Capitalists 94- Tax Dodogers 89
Grape Stompers 81- Creek Trail Burros 67
LIttle Flowers of Jesus 73- The Huntresses 63
Huachuca Chukars 87- The J Team 84
HB Footballers 86- Rex's Team 85
Radisson Rebels 65- Tubby Corgis 61
Rancho Eagles 80- Thunder Mountain Lightning 69
T3SNBN 94- Quite Smashing Pumpkins 78
Avalon Aces 66- Mighty Birnkrant Moose 65

Three things I know this week:

1. It was cool to see a kicker with a captain's patch on his uniform. Detroit PK Jason Hanson is the best product to come out of there in about the last 20 years.

2. The Cowboys are due for a major overhaul in the offseason.

3. I know helmet-to-helmet hits can be bad, but crackback blocks are just as bad. However, more of them occur every game than tose big helmet-to-helmet hits.

This week's byes: Detroit, Indianapolis, NY Jets and Houston are all off this week. Get those lineups in on time!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Until Next week folks,
-The Commissioner

Wednesday, October 13, 2010

Week 5

Well Folks,

It was another weird week in the NFL with proved the old NFL axiom on any given Sunday any team can beat any other team. Here's the scores...

Tax Dodgers 116- Avalon Aces 104
Rex's Team 107- Huachuca Chukars 104
Rancho Eagles 118- The Huntresses 75
The J Team 87- Grape Stompers 66
Little Flowers of Jesus 95- HB Footballers 84
Quite Smashing Pumpkins 87- Radisson Rebels 64
Canoga Lakes Capitalists 71- Thunder Mountain Lightning 53
Creek Trail Burros 82- T3SNBN 63
Mighty Birnkrant Moose 103- Tubby Corgis 57

Three Things About Last Weekend...

1. Buffalo really, really, stinks. Hey, they lost to a Jacksonville team that never wins up north.

2. Even with getting Randy Moss back, the Vikings won't get back to the NFC Title Game.

3. There are no undefeated teams left in the NFL. Those guys from the '72 Dolphins must be celebrating somewhere.

BYES FOR THIS WEEK: Buffalo, Cincinnati, Arizona, and Carolina are all off this week.
Please get those lineups to me by 8:00 PM Saturday night.

Have a great week!
-The Commissioner

Wednesday, October 6, 2010

Week 4

Hey All,

With a few teams off for the first of the bye weeks, scoring took a nose dive in the UMFL.
Here are this week's results...

Tax Dodgers 63- Rex's Team 62
T3SNBN 79- Huachuca Chukars 50
Avalon Aces 98- Rancho Eagles 65
Quite Smashing Pumpkins 92- Grape Stompers 90
Thunder Mountain Lightning 89- HB Footballers 77
Radisson Rebels 74- The J Team 62
Little Flowers of Jesus 89- Canoga Lakes Capitalists 77
Creek Trail Burros 87- Mighty Birnkrant Moose 65
The Huntresses 63- Tubby Corgis 63

Yes Folks, there was a tie this week. Those happen a couple of times a season.

Three thing about last weekend...

1. The Cardinals stink and even having Matt Leinart would not help them.

2. The Colts could end up being the highest scoring 8-8 team ever.

3. Wow, I think Tennessee defensive coordinator Chuck Cecil will think again before giving the refs the finger. Last week's finger cost him a $40,000 fine from the league.

This Week's Byes: MIAMI, NEW ENGLAND, PITTSBURGH, and SEATTLE are all off. So, change your lineups accordingly and let me know by 8:00PM Saturday night.

Have a great week folks!
-The Commissioner

Wednesday, September 29, 2010

Week 3

Hey All,

It was big weekend for the UMFL. Big offensive performances in the NFL means big points scored in the UMFL. It seemed like you needed to break 100 to win this week. Here are the results...

T3SNBN 116- Tax Dodgers 99
Rex's Team 101- Avalon Aces 91
Huachuka Chukars 113- Mighty Birnkrant Moose 108
Quite Smashing Pumpkins 106- The J Team 58
HB Footballers 89- Canoga Lakes Capitalists 81
Grape Stompers 90- Radisson Rebels 88
Thunder Mountain Lightning 110- Little Flowers of Jesus 106
The Huntresses 89- Creek Trail Burros 77
Rancho Eagles 86- Tubby Corgis 71

Three Things from this past weekend...

1. Being a kicker in the NFL is a tough job. Just ask Sebastian Janikowski and Garrett Hartley.

2. The San Francisco 49ers are in deep trouble and their schedule doesn't help them in the next few weeks.

3. The Steelers are rolling without Ben Roethlesberger. I hope he doesn't blow it for them when he comes back.

Folks, remember to get your starting lineups in by 8:00 PM Saturday night. The byes begin in the NFL this week. Dallas, Kansas City, Minnesota, and Tampa Bay are all off this week.

A final note...
A couple of days ago, one of the greats of the game passed away. George Blanda died at age 83. Blanda's incredible 26 seasons in the NFL and AFL will never be equaled. He retired in 1976, one month shy of his 49th birthday, still able to hit 50-yard field goals and throw 50-yard TD passes. He played for great coaches, that included Bear Bryant (when Bryant was the HC at Kentucky), George Halas with the Bears, and the legendary John Madden with the Raiders. He was one of the last great all-around players. He could run, throw, and kick. He also holds a unique place in Topps football card history. Back when the 1975 Topps football card set came out, his bio and lifetime stats took up so much space he has two cards in the set. He's on cards 7 and 8. He is an iconic symbol of the game and is greatly missed.

Until Next week folks,
-The Commissioner

Tuesday, September 21, 2010

Week 2

Hey All,

Week two is in the books for the NFL and the UMFL. Here are this week's three things that I liked seeing in this past weekend's games.

1. I loved watching Troy Polamalu intercept a pass thrown by Vince Young. I loved watching Vince Young being benched even more.

2. I liked watching karma catch up with Reggie Bush.

3. I liked watching the Cardinals lose big in Atlanta. I think they could use Matt Leinart.

Results
T3SNBN 105- Rex's Team 79
Avalon Aces 86- Huachuca Chukars 61
Tax Dodgers 94- The Huntresses 73
Canoga Lakes Capitalists 102, Quite Smashing Pumpkins 91
HB Footballers 73- The J Team 61
Little Flowers of Jesus 71- Grape Stompers 62
Thunder Mountain Lightning 82- Radisson Rebels 80
Creek Trail Burros 67- Tubby Corgis 40
Mighty Birnkrant Moose 89- Rancho Eagles 59

Remember to get your starting lineups in for this week by Saturday night at 8:00 PM PDT.

-The Commissioner

Tuesday, September 14, 2010

Week1

Hey All,

The first week of the NFl season is done and we had some good games in the UMFL. Here's the first edition of three things...

1. The Quite Smashing Pumpkins will be hard to beat if they put 126 point on the board each week.
2. A lot of owners fell for the hype around the Jets.
3. The Raiders still stink.

For week two, you have until Saturday night to get your starting lineups in for the week. Also there are no byes in the NFL this week.

-The Commissioner

Results:
T3SNBN 78- Avalon Aces 56
Tax Dodgers 88- Huachuca Chukars 84
Rex's Team 77- Tubby Corgis 52
Quite Smashing Pumpkins 126- HB Footballers 65
Canoga Lakes Capitalists 75- The J Team 74
Thunder Mountain Lightning 100- Grape Stompers 45
Little Flowers of Jesus 93- Radisson Rebels 49
Rancho Eagles 79- Creek Trail Burros 67
MIghty Birnkrant Moose 65- The Huntresses 61
